Love & Thunder finds singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson at his most contemplative, weaving stories of life and poetry and God's love into a cohesive journey through his own soul. And it's probably his most fully-developed album to-date.
Employing producers Steve Hindalong and Derri Daugherty, Peterson also brings several friends along for the ride, including Alison Krauss and Ron Block of Union Station, Jill Phillips, Cliff Young of Caedmon's Call, Randall Goodgame, and more. As you might guess, the album sports a wonderfully rich sound, organic and emotive, drawing the listener in effortlessly. Lyrically, he seems to venture in many different directions, telling stories both ancient and modern, personal and Biblical, but in the end it becomes obvious that he's drawing upon simple themes of trust, love, mercy, and power -- all commentaries on the dichotomy between God's merciful love and His willingness to allow pain to occur.
Andrew Peterson is one of our greatest treasures as a singer/songwriter. And Love & Thunder is so stunningly tender and affecting, it's got to be his finest work yet.
