Across the Sky is what happens when two solo artists meet up in the halls of their record label, form a bond of brotherhood, and decide to abandon their solo careers in favor of forming a duo. Justin Unger thrives on modern pop music, while Ben Kolarcik enjoys edgy rock & roll. Combine the two and you get vocal-based pop/rock that's heavy on the guitars, but features punchy pop melodies.
What's more, Warner Bros. decided to give this promising young duo every possible chance to succeed, by teaming the pair up with every songwriter this side of Memphis (similar to the "songwriting retreat" held to craft songs for Rachael Lampa's debut album a few years ago). Both Unger and Kolarcik are songwriters themselves, so they had a hand in almost every song; but the co-writer list is quite impressive, including recognizable names like Scott Krippayne, Jason Ingram, Peter Kipley, Luke Brown (Strange Celebrity), Cindy Morgan, Kyle Matthews, Jeff Borders, and many more. You pool this much talent together on a single album and you can't help but come up with something that's compulsively listenable, produced to pop/rock perfection, and brimming with accessible, enjoyable songs.
