Now on its third album, the quintet known as Jump5 is growing up. The group's eldest member is 17, with most of the others now already driver's license owners. They grow up fast, don't they?Likewise, the group's music is growing up with them. As often seems to happen with pop groups, their music is becoming increasingly sophisticated as they age. That said, this is still pop music aimed at teens, and the group's young existing fans will still love every minute of Accelerate. Jump5 continues to sing relatable songs that teens will quickly latch onto that speak to the pressures, lifestyles, and quirks that they face everyday, like celebrating life, first loves, and the dilemma of trying to fit in by doing what everyone else is doing.
Musically, they seem to be progressing into maturity, while still maintaining teen-accessible lyrics. The album is rounded out by high-octane covers of "Walking On Sunshine," "Shining Star," and the Radio Disney Family Pledge theme song, "We Are Family."
Older listeners may turn their noses up, but at least their kids have quality music to call their own, even if mom and dad don't get it. And the group continues to get better with each new album. But they're not going to be teenagers much longer; it'll be interesting to see what happens when this group of "kids" reach their 20s in just a few years.
