Tooth and Nail has a knack for releasing the right rock band at the right time. New band Emery, originally hailing from Southern Carolina but now Seattle, is no exception. The Weaks End, is a raging, intense melodic set that blows the door off from the opening cut, boldly announcing to the rock world that a new power has arrived.
Trading off between screams and deceptively phlegmatic vocals, "Walls" typifies the band's cutting edge emo sound. Lyrically, the band uses a lot of imagery to make its point. Almost every member of this six-man band shares in the background vocal duties and it provides a nice, melodic subtext to the overall intensity of the project. The overall guitar work here is excellent; shocking and beautiful at the same time, which seems to be the desired effect.
In the end, Emery transcends the emo genre. They have created an album that is instantly memorable and should appeal not only to fans of hard music but crossover to fans of good rock music, in general. Highly recommended.
