There aren't that many artists that get around to releasing more than one greatest hits package, but Michael W. Smith has now joined their ranks. With The Second Decade, he follows up his first best-of with a similar collection of his best songs from the last ten years of his life.
You'll find all of the predictable choices here, such as "Cry For Love," "Missing Person," "Live the Life," "This Is Your Time," and "I'll Lead You Home." The song selection overall is excellent. He also nicely includes a few tracks from his more recent experimentations in other genres, such as "Above All" from Worship and "Freedom" from his instrumental album. If nothing else, The Second Decade serves as a solid reminder of how diverse and creative the last ten years have been for Smith.
Also included are two brand new tracks, the current radio hit "Signs," co-written by son Ryan Smith, and the superior "Raging Sea," a collaboration with "Above All" co-writer Paul Baloche, which closes the album. This Limited Edition version also includes a nice secondary piece of memorabilia in the form of a DVD disc, which provides a retrospective on Smitty's body of work - definitely worth the extra two bucks.
