Third Day can still rock. This really should not come as a surprise to those who have been following the band from the start, but after offering up two consecutive worship projects there were murmurs that this once proud southern rock band had lost its edge. Oh, how foolish the naysayers now must feel, with the release of the Third Day's latest album, Wire.
Wire takes us back to the bread-and-butter basics that originally made Third Day so remarkable. The band made a conscious decision to step away from long-time producer, Monroe Jones, and stretch themselves by handing Paul Ebersold (Sister Hazel, Three Doors Down) the reigns. In the least, Wire clearly shows that Third Day has a lot more to say as a band, and as a group of guys who like to play music really loud. More than that, though, Wire is a solid, if not spectacular, record. Tracks like "Billy Brown" and "I Got A Feeling" give me the feeling that it's way too early to write off Third Day as past their prime. Wire has restored my confidence in the group and encouraged me to believe that their best days remain in front of them, not behind.
