Emerging from a season of change, Joy Williams is back with her third melodic pop album, appropriately titled Genesis. Joy first burst onto the Christian music scene as a smiling 18-year old singer winning people over with her infectious personality. But Joy is not one to settle for the status quo even when the bar is already raised so high. Gradually, Joy set out to become a writer and major artistic influence on her albums as well.
Fast-forward to 2005 and you will find that she achieved this goal. With a grueling writing and recording schedule, Joy wrestled through over 50 songs before deciding on the final 10. Add to this Joy’s marriage to fiancé Nate in the Redwoods of California on June 12, 2004, and you begin to see a remarkable year of change and growth for this now 22-year old artist.
That journey becomes evident in Joy’s new album, Genesis. Maturity, depth and the wonderful promise of tomorrow pervade Joy’s lyrics. Musically, Joy’s silky voice coupled with an easy modern pop sound is reflective, yet powerful. Fans and new listeners alike will embrace this evolved sound from one of Christian music’s favorite artists.
