Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Hawk Nelson is set to make its mark on the south-of-their-border punk music world. Hawk Nelson has been championed by Thousand Foot Krutch's Trevor McNevan, who has acted as a mentor for the band and helped hook the band up with their label. McNevan also co-produces the album, Letters To the President, along side long-time Tooth and Nail guiding light, Aaron Sprinkle.
Influenced early by the likes of MxPx, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Slick Shoes, on Letters To the President Hawk Nelson has embraced more of a power/punk sound, heavy on the melodic, along the lines of Good Charlotte, FM Static, and Simple Plan. In short, right out of the gate they're probably the most to-the-moment sounding punk band on the Christian scene. Lead vocalist Jason Dunn sounds like he was born to sing these songs. Though they're not quite as poppy as Relient K, Relient K's fans should have no problem eagerly embracing Hawk Nelson's three-chord crooning. I can see Hawk Nelson quickly becoming the one of the most popular Christian punk bands on the scene. They know what their audience wants to hear and they dish it up with cherries on top.
