Lavik hails from Redmond, Washington, went to school at Westmont College, and spent two years interning at Saddleback church, in Orange County, California. He's a west coast guy, and he has put his recent California years to good use, honing his guitar and songwriting skills. His debut album, Moving On Faith, has a sunny California vibe, with firmly planted acoustic roots. Moving On Faith is somewhere in the midst of a cross between John Mayer and Jeremy Camp - musically, since Lavik's soft vocals (almost like a younger sounding Steven Curtis Chapman) are a stark contrast to Camp's deep, throaty baritone. Lyrically, Moving On Faith is very worshipful at moments, though the album touches on life issues enough to avoid being categorized as a "worship" record. Lavik is a good songwriter (credits on every song on the album, except one). Moving on Faith is a solid debut and Lavik shows enough potential for me to be able to say that I'm looking forward to hearing more.
