Though he's only released one full album, Tim Hughes has become a household name for those who follow worship music. Hughes, who released his first album, Here I Am To Worship, two years ago, saw the title track from that CD rise in popularity to become one of the most-sung choruses in today's church.
Back for round two now, Hughes has actually already made his mark with a follow-up song. "Beautiful One," which has already been recorded by the likes of Jeremy Camp, has quickly become one of the most popular choruses of the past year, and is the lead track on Hughes' new album, When Silence Falls. The rest of the songs on the album display a similar depth of both music and lyric. In a world full of simplistic songs about the greatness of God it is refreshing to hear tracks that are not afraid to dig deeper, yet remain imminently accessible and suitable for the corporate worship setting.
It's a crowded field for those who write and record worship music. Tim Hughes has no fear of being overlooked though, if he continues along the path he is on. When Silence Falls does not disappoint; it is one of the finest worship albums of this year.
