If the Beach Boys were a punk band, they would
have probably sounded a lot like Calibretto 13. In fact, this new artist from
Tooth and Nail Records has one of the more unique sounds of any recent band I
can think of. With fervor, attitude, and righteous energy this trio of guys from
Kokomo, Indiana tackle tough issues like traditionalism and church hypocrisy
with their own unique flare, yet also rave about the importance of frienship and
togetherness. The musicianship is excellent, with tasty guitar licks and plenty
of neo-surferpunk (I just invented that word) grooves and thought-provoking
lyrics to keep listeners glued through many spins. The songs jump from dark,
intese near-balladry to campfire weirdness to poppy stomper, sometimes all
within the same song. If you like hard-edged intelligent rock, then you mustn't
wait another second to check this album out!
