Almost two years ago, Sparrow Records released a 5-song EP by a promising young band of classic/modern rocker titled simply The Elms. The EP contained the hit song Lifeboat, and I waited with much anticipation for more news of this engaging new group. Well, there was none, so I kind of wrote them off. Well, surprise! Apparently the band was involved in a heavy tour schedule during that time, but they have finally released their full-length debut album aptly titled Big Surprise. The surprise is that it is such a good record, from start to finish. While a few of the songs from the EP are included on the album (including Lifeboat), there is plenty of new and great ear candy for you to discover. The music is an energetic, enthusiastic blend of classic rock roots with modern pop rock sensibilities. Should be a popular album.
