Starflyer 59

Leave Here A Stranger

The gently melancholic atmosphere of Leave Here A Stranger delivers more of the lush melodies and shoegazing moods for which Starflyer 59 are known. As on Stranger's predecessor, Everybody Makes Mistakes, Jason Martin's vocals melt delicately into the group's richly constructed symphonies that drip with languid harmonies and warm, earthy guitars. More sprawling musically than 'Mistakes', but similar in ambience, Stranger nevertheless demostrates sonic evolution through its burbling keyboards (Night Music), its summery, '60's-inspired pop flourishes (This I Don't Need, Can You Play Drums?) and its haunting backward loops (I Like Your Photographs). The results retain a distinctly organic tone while stretching dreamily to the otherworld
