I must admit - I did not like the last album by the Newsboys. Sure, the production and the sound were top notch, but I just did not buy the Disco vibe at all. But if they had to go through "Disco" to get to "Thrive," then all is forgiven. "Thrive" continues where "Take Me To Your Leader" left off over five years ago. Steve Taylor is back in the mix co-writing and co-producing much of the album...and it shows. The album is sprinkled with witty lyrics (a Taylor trademark), and melodies that are unusual, yet completely infectious. Peter Furler and company are in top shape on the entire album, and "Thrive" does indeed thrive. The music is progressive, and takes pop rock to a new frontier. The fast songs pulse with energy and intensity at every turn (Giving It Over, Fad of the Land) and when things slow down a bit, the songs are just as great (It's You). Suffice it to say that in my humble opinion, "Thrive" is some of the best stuff the Newsboys have released to date. - Sean von Tagen
