Comprised of three new songs and nine classic carols, Christmas (along with its Spanish-language counterpart, Navidad), is sure to garner plenty of attention. The three new songs are particularly good, especially "The Angel Song," another instant classic marriage of Velasquez' vocals and the songwriting of Chris Eaton. "It Wouldn't Be Christmas, penned by Scott Krippayne, is a lovely piano-accompanied love ballad. And "Season of Love" is a nice duet between Velasquez and labelmate Pete Orta (and no, it's not the same original song 4 Him recorded several years ago). It says a lot about the original songs included that they in no way disrupt the flow of the album from one song to the next -- you never feel like you've stepped outside of the holiday music, which is more than many Christmas albums can lay claim to. - Robin Parrish
