U2 frontman Bono was named among a near-record number of Nobel Peace Prize nominees this week. Bono's recognition as a Nobel Peace Prize nominee comes in response to his work with the African debt & AIDS crisis (see his website at www.datadata.org), which has brought international awareness to the plight of dying Africans due to the continent's massive monetary debt and AIDS epidemic, which has killed over 11 million Africans, with another 28.1 million currently infected.
More than 150 individuals and organizations were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year, including Pope John Paul, former Illinois state Governor George Ryan, and French President Jacques Chirac.
