During a concert on August 17 in Covina, CA, Daily Planet lead singer Jesse Butterworth suffered a severely broken ankle and leg after jumping off of a platform. On his way down from a toe touch (ending the "80's medley" that the group is known to perform) Butterworth landed awkwardly and his ankle and leg shattered into six pieces as it crashed into the stage.
After a week in the hospital, and then surgery, he is now finally back home in Nashville, recovering. He reports that the surgery was a success and the severe pain he was in before has now subsided. His x-ray reportedly "looks like the hardware department of Home Depot" with nine screws and a plate to hold his bones together so they can heal correctly.
Because of Butterworth's injury, Daily Planet has had to cancel several concertsa nd are unsure of when they will be able to perform again in the immediate future. Unfortunately, Butterworth does not have health insurance and is trying to deal with the financial burden of hospital, surgery, and personal bills without being able to work.
