Groundbreaking artist Tonex took home the most Stellar Awards during the 20th annual ceremony Saturday night in Houston, TX, winning a total of 6 awards.
Tonex and his band, the Peculiar People, were named Artist of the Year for the critically acclaimed double-disc project, Out The Box. "Make Me Over," the album's standout track also took home the award for Song of the Year.
Out The Box was named Contemporary CD of the Year, with Thank Q/Out The Box taking Hip Hop/Rap Gospel CD of the Year. Tonex was also named Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, and he and the Peculiar People won Urban/Inspirational Performance of the Year.
Other big winners included Israel & New Breed, winners for CD of the Year for Live From Another Level and a Male Vocalist of the Year award for Israel Houghton.
Gospel and Contemporary Christian icon CeCe Winans took home Female Vocalist of the Year and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year.
Red-hot singer/songwriter/worship leader Martha Munizzi took the New Artist of the Year award for her stellar major-label debut, The Best Is Yet To Come.
Other notable winners include Fred Hammond for Producer of the Year and Deitrick Haddon presents Voices of Unity for Contemporary Group/Duo of the year.
