According to Matthew Thiessen in a recent interview with Matt Degen from the Orange County Register, recently Grammy-nominated Relient KGood Charlotte and Simple Plan.
Relient K recently released "Be My Escape" to mainstream radio and is receiving a warm reception thus far from radio programmers and concert promoters. According to the interview, Relient K uses double-platinum band Switchfoot as its model for success in both the Christian and mainstream markets.
"Yeah, we've always tried to," Thiessen states in the interview, when asked if his group wants to emulate the path of Switchfoot. "Even when we were selling more records than they were a couple years ago, we were still trying to follow in their footsteps."
"And they became mentors to us," Thiessen continues. "We've admired that band. I saw (Switchfoot lead singer) Jon (Foreman) the other day, and have a lot of admiration for them. In the same respect, we are different bands. They have pop appeal and are more suitable for radio."
