Essential Records' Jars of Clay, True Vibe, Andrew Peterson, Paul Colman Trio, Bebo Norman, and Sarah Sadler made known their presence last week at the Christian Bookseller Association's annual international convention, participating in signings, performances and interviews for the more than 13,000 attendees. Essential Records' biggest display of the week came in the form of Monday night's Big Ticket Event, two and a half hours worth of performances by Provident Music Distribution's greatest talents. The bill included Essential Records' Sarah Sadler, Bebo Norman, Paul Colman Trio, and closing the show, Jars of Clay. The concert attracted a standing-room only audience of nearly 1400.
Pop foursome True Vibe took the stage alongside Sixpence None the Richer, Stacie Orrico, and Brian Free & Assurance at Saturday evening's concert, hosted by Word Entertainment/Word Records female vocalist Nicole C. Mullen. The group debuted music from its August 20 sophomore release See the Light, including the album's title cut and first radio single "See the Light," the acappella number "Not What I Say" and "Pray." True Vibe then joined fellow pop artist Stacie Orrico at a post-concert signing event, where they autographed for hundreds of enthusiastic retailers.
Watershed Records' folk singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson also took part in the week's festivities, as the featured music performer at a NavPress luncheon commemorating the launch of The Message Bible, translated by Eugene Peterson. Peterson teamed up with popular Christian comedian Mark Lowry to entertain the more than 350 book retailers and distributors present.
Active on the convention floor, Bebo Norman and newly signed pop-rock singer Sarah Sadler made an appearance at Provident Music Distribution's (PMD) exhibition booth to meet, greet, and talk about their upcoming September 10 projects, Myself When I Am Real and Sarah Sadler. Former Aussie band PC3, now based in the U.S., also supported its May 21 release, New Map of the World, with signing sessions at both PMD's booth and a personality booth, the latter accruing a 90-minute line.
In addition to music related signing events, Jars of Clay drew an enormous crowd to its Baker Book signing, where they inscribed copies of The Narrow Road, a book for which they wrote the foreword. Lead singer Dan Haseltine also autographed movie posters in promotion of Hometown Legend, which features his first self-penned film score. Haseltine stopped by the Relevant Books booth as well to sign, I Am Relevant. The project, which includes both a foreward by and a feature on Haseltine, focuses on twenty-something artists, athletes, writers, and others making an impact on today's culture.
