The winners in the Gospel Music Excellence Awards were announced Saturday night, August 10, and among the evening's biggest winners were Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Men of Standard, and Donald Lawrence. The Excellence Awards are a featured event at the annual GMWA Conference, which is essentially the urban gospel version of GMA, making the Excellence Awards akin to the Dove Awards.

- Female Vocalist of the Year/Contemporary: LaShun Pace
- Female Vocalist of the Year/Urban Contemporary: Yolanda Adams
- New Artist of the Year/Contemporary: Ted & Sheri
- New Artist of the Year/Urban Contemporary: Londa Larmond
- Contemporary Album of the Year: The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin by Kirk Franklin
- Urban Contemporary Album of the Year: Volume III by Men of Standard
- Contemporary Song of the Year: "Hosanna" by Kirk Franklin
