Gospel Music Excellence Awards winners announced

The winners in the Gospel Music Excellence Awards were announced Saturday night, August 10, and among the evening's biggest winners were Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Men of Standard, and Donald Lawrence. The Excellence Awards are a featured event at the annual GMWA Conference, which is essentially the urban gospel version of GMA, making the Excellence Awards akin to the Dove Awards.

Group of the Year/Urban Contemporary: Men of Standard
Male Vocalist of the Year/Contemporary: Fred Hammond
