Consignment Seller ProgramWelcome to the brand new Consignment Seller program at FreshReleases.com! If you are reading this, it's most likely because you are interested in finding out how to get your music listed on FreshReleases.com. We have created this program because of the rapidly growing number of high quality independent artists and record labels who do not have access to major distribution channels, and are looking for a way to increase the exposure of their music, gain new fans, and sell some CD's. If that's you, then keep reading. The Reason For This Program As you already know, the music industry is changing. Retail sales have been declining for the last three years, record labels are not signing as many new artists, and they are not spending as much time and money to develop the artists they do sign. Consequently, independent labels are springing up to help aspiring artists record their CD's and promote themselves. However, when it comes to distribution they are finding closed doors at almost every turn. Without the clout of a major label behind them, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to get retailers to carry their product. As unfortunate as that is, from the retailer's perspective it does make sense. In the traditional retail business model, retailer's must first purchase the products they offer for inventory before they sell them. This makes taking a chance on new artists a very risky endeavor, and something that they just cannot afford to do on a broad scale. For that reason, most retailers, especially in this time of plummeting music sales, are not taking chances on buying music for their inventory unless they are sure it will sell. Without the marketing muscle of a major label or the benefit of a proven sales track record by an artist, most music retailers, even discriminating ones who know good music when they hear it (which is about 5%-10% of the retailers), are simply not willing to take the gamble and offer new music by independent artists and/or record labels to their consumers, no matter how good it is. Internet retailers are in pretty much the same boat. While the overhead of maintaining the store is not as high, we still have to buy our inventory, and it is still risky to take the chance on buying music to sell without knowing how well, or even if it will sell. Our vision at FreshReleases has always been to help break down the wall between independent artists/labels and the major labels. We think music should be recognized for what it is and be given the chance to rise to the top based on merit and not based on who happens to be pushing it. And who better to decide than the consumers themselves - they know what they like, after all! To that end, we have come up with a way that enables us to offer more music from more artists than we ever could before. With the Consignment Seller Program, independent artists and labels who have been accepted and are registered with us will send us a small quantity of their CD's to be kept in our inventory. As your CD(s) sell, your account will be credited whatever wholesale amount per CD we have agreed upon. All sales are tracked automatically and are available to our registered sellers anytime by simply logging into their account. As the CD's sell and the inventory gets low, you will simply send in some more CD's to keep enough stock in our inventory to meet demand. Payment for the CD's that are sold will be made upon request or at the end of every quarter. Anyone can apply to have their music carried on FreshReleases. We still insist on maintaining our standard of excellence, so unfortunately not everyone who applies will be accepted. If you are accepted, you will then receive an email with instructions on how to register with us and get your music listed and the party started! If this sounds good to you and you wish to apply to become a registered Consigment Seller on FreshReleases.com, simply send us a copy of the CD(s) you wish to have in our store, along with a bio and any information about you or your band that you think we should know. If you have a photo, it wouldn't hurt to send that either.
