Detour 180 is not your everyday rock band. For starters, the land they call home is the same place where all those Hobbits and Elves have been hanging out lately: New Zealand. Then there's the fact that their primary songwriters are the band's drummer and guitarist. And to top it off, they've only been together for about a year, but already their sound is remarkably well-honed. Clearly, Detour 180 is going to defy your expectations. Already making plenty of friends and fans on the Summer Jam Tour, this group has "buzz" written all over it. Can they possibly live up to the hype?
Very nearly, yeah. Rarely will you find more confident or sure-handed rock songs -- both in writing and execution -- from a brand new band. Detour 180 sounds like a group that has been together for years and is now getting around to putting out that career-defining album. Most of these songs are surprisingly strong, kicking off with a handful of intense, great-sounding rock anthems. Rock bands are a dime a dozen, but to hear a new rock band that catches your attention this quickly and holds onto it so effortlessly is highly unusual.
Everything about this group and this album screams potential. You'll be seeing big things from Detour 180; they've got the kind of already-realized artistic sensibility that takes most artists years to find.
