Reaching takes LaRue to a new level of maturity and self-assuredness, with multiple-layered themes, roughly textured sounds, and more intricately designed harmonies. The album picks up at a point in Phillip & Natalie's lives not long after their most difficult year ever -- questioning their calling after several earth-shattering events, including Phillip's life-threatening reaction to a drug for malaria taken while on a missions trip -- and finds them pursuing ultimate surrender to God. The entire disc just cries out, "whatever, God!" Whatever He has for them, wherever He wants to take them, no matter what that entails, they'll do it. The title signifies their desire to point people to God by eternally reaching out for God (a notion based on a quote by A.W. Tozer).
